CI Energy Group's annual Shutdowns Turnarounds Superconference – Houston took place December 3 & 4, 2015 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston. This event brings together a community of specialists who are passionate about turnaround excellence from a diversity of industries in the Gulf Coast and across the US to share insights and gain practical knowledge.

The conference featured several owner-led sessions, starting with Lucite International delving into Process Improvement Management and how to drive dramatic change in overhaul execution, followed by a presentation from TPC Group and Apprion Inc. on effectively using new wireless technology to save time and money on turnarounds. Reliability Process Improvement Specialist and past SMRP Chair, Michael Eisenbise led a detailed session on how to Extend the Turnaround Life Cycle.

Other highlights from the event included a session from Kuraray America Inc. on the Adequacy of Skilled Labor for Turnaround Projects, followed by a lively discussion on the current challenge Linking Education with Industry Needs from San Jacinto College. Case Studies from PacifiCorp Energy detailed How to Facilitate the Planning Process to Ensure a Smooth Execution and Best Practices in Cost Tracking for more accurate budget forecasts. Everyone appreciated hearing about what worked – and what didn't.

Day 2 featured an impactful presentation from Termite Watkins, a former professional boxer and Olympic Boxing Coach who inspired the audience through his motivational talk on Safety and got the entire room to participate in an extremely moving and interactive session. Joe Jackson from LyondellBasell transitioned into a discussion on Safety Leadership and How to Ensure a Commitment to Safety throughout the Site.

The event closed with a dynamic Q & A session led by Sam Harkreader from Ascend Performance Materials along with panelists from LyondellBasell, and Covestro LLC. This information packed event provided invaluable takeaways and opportunities to network and develop new business relationships with key decision makers.
